Adopting a layout that combines single-sided grounded support legs with the tracks on the opposite side of the factory building saves space and increases the utilization rate of the workshop floor.

High-Precision Multi-Drive Synchronous Control System

The long travel mechanism of the double beam gantry crane is equipped with independent driving units on both sides. If the speeds on both sides are not consistent during operation, the gantry will tilt, causing the wheel rim to rub against the side of the track. We integrate a high-precision PLC with a VFD. It promptly collects the speed and torque signals of the motors on both sides, and automatically adjusts the output frequency through electronic coordination. This can achieve millimeter level load positioning accuracy, helping you improve operational precision.

Multiple Safety Braking Systems

Multiple Safety Braking Systems

Each lifting unit of our double girder gantry cranes is equipped with independent lifting brakes, emergency brakes and safety clutches. They can make sure the safety of the load in emergencies. The system is equipped with real-time sensors. It can accurately detect abnormal signals of components and issue maintenance warnings in advance when components fail. This helps you avoid safety hazards and provides comprehensive safety guarantees for heavy-load operations, reducing the rate of equipment failures and safety accidents.

Modular Components

The lifting mechanism, running reducer, and wheel set of our double girder gantry crane all adopt standardized interface module units. Each unit independently integrates the motor, reducer and transmission components. When a module fails, you do not need to disassemble the entire device. This splitting and assembling method reduces the amount of high-altitude welding work on site and shortens the commissioning cycle. At the same time, it also facilitates the disassembly and reassembly of the crane when the working site changes, allowing for cross-site transfer.

Which Parts of the Double Girder Gantry Crane are Most Easily Overlooked in Daily Maintenance?

The wear of the wheel rim and the side of the track is easily overlooked in the daily maintenance of double beam gantry cranes. The wheel tread and rim should be inspected regularly. When the rim wear reaches 10% of the thickness, you must replace it.

In addition, the bolts and welding points connecting the end beam and the main beam are most prone to fatigue cracks due to long-term vibration. You should regularly verify the pre-tightening force of high-strength bolts.

Why is it Important to Reserve a Certain Degree of Pre-Arching on the Main Beam of a Double Girder Gantry Crane?

The reserved pre-arching of the main beam is to counteract the downward deformation under load. This can keep the main beam close to horizontal in working condition, thereby optimizing force distribution and reducing additional stress.

If there is a lack of reasonable pre-arching, the main beam may experience deformation, local stress concentration, and even fatigue damage risks during long-term operation. This will shorten the service life of your double girder gantry crane and affect safety.

How can We Prevent the Double Girder Portal Crane from Sliding Away in Strong Winds?

For outdoor double girder gantry cranes, you can configure various wind-resistant devices to form a combined protective system. Common wind-resistant devices include track clamps, iron wedge braking devices, and anchoring systems, etc. These devices achieve stable control by increasing the restraint force between the wheels and the rails or by fixing the equipment on the foundation.

In practical applications, wind speed detection devices measure the wind force and trigger alarms when it reaches the set threshold. Or they will automatically perform limit position, track clamping or braking operations. During long-term shutdown or in extreme weather conditions, you can further enhance the fixation effect by using anchoring or cable methods.

What Factors Determine the Duty Classification of a Double Girder Gantry Crane?

The duty classification of a double beam gantry crane is mainly determined by the usage frequency, load level, and the number of operation cycles. When the crane is in a high-frequency, continuous operation state, the accumulated stress on its structure is greater. You need to choose a higher duty classification, such as an A5 or A6 crane, to make sure stable long-term operation. If your usage frequency is low or the load is light, you can choose an A3 or A4 crane.

Why are Cantilever Arms Added to the Double Girder Gantry Crane?

The cantilever design extends the main beam beyond one or both of the legs, creating additional material handling areas. This expands the effective operating range of the crane, allowing it to lift goods from trucks or trains beyond the track span, without the need for secondary handling equipment. You can flexibly load and unload materials within a limited space, enhancing the site utilization.

What should be Noted When Laying the Foundation of the Double Girder Gantry Crane Track?

You need to reinforce according to the soil conditions on site. Soft ground needs to be compacted to avoid settlement in the later stage. The two walking tracks need to remain parallel and at the same height.

The ground should have a reasonable drainage slope to promptly drain away rainwater. This is to prevent track corrosion, roadbed collapse, and to make sure the smooth and stable movement of your double girder gantry crane over the long term.

Choosing the Lifting Mechanism of the Double Girder Gantry Crane: Winch vs. Electric Hoist

Structural Difference

The electric hoist is an integrated lifting device. It integrates components such as the motor, reducer, drum, and brake into one unit. The electric hoist is lightweight and is usually suspended below the double girder by a trolley.

The winch adopts a modular trolley structure. The motor, reducer, drum, brake, etc. are all independent components. Each component is connected through couplings or gears and installed in the trolley machine room.

Lifting Capacity

The lifting capacity of electric hoists typically ranges from 0.5 to 50 tons, with the duty classification mainly being A3 to A5. It is suitable for light to moderate operations, such as the transfer of raw materials in warehouses and the assembly of equipment in small workshops.

Therefore, if your project involves medium-sized tonnage and intermittent operations, you can choose an electric hoist for your double beam gantry crane.

The winch can easily cover a lifting capacity of 50 to 100+ tons, with duty classification up to A6 to A8. It is suitable for high-frequency heavy-load operations, such as the lifting of steel billets in steel mills and the hoisting of ship sections in shipyards.

If your project has a large lifting capacity or frequently operates close to the rated load, the winch can provide a more stable power output for you.

Lifting Height

The lifting height of an electric hoist is generally 6 to 36 meters. Its lifting speed is relatively fixed and is suitable for the transportation of materials at regular heights. For ordinary factories, you can choose an electric hoist.

The winch drum is larger in diameter and supports multi-ratio winding (4 ropes, 6 ropes, 8 ropes). It can achieve a higher lifting height. The winch can handle large lifting loads and also achieve stepless speed regulation through frequency conversion control.

If you need to transport expensive molds or precision machinery, the winch can provide smooth and high-precision movement for your double girder gantry crane.

Life Cycle Cost and Maintenance

The initial purchase cost of an electric hoist is lower than that of a winch, and the installation period is shorter. However, the core components of an electric hoist, such as the steel wire rope and the reducer, have a lifespan of approximately 5-8 years.

When a fault occurs, you need to undergo specialized major repairs or replace the entire machine, which results in long downtime and high maintenance costs.

The initial investment for a winch is high, but the lifespan of its core components can reach 10-15 years. If the motor or brake fails, you can independently repair or replace it without disassembling the entire lifting mechanism. This helps you reduce downtime and operating costs.

Final Decision Logic

If your project meets the following conditions, you can choose electric hoists for the lifting mechanism of your double girder gantry crane:

  • Small and medium-sized tonnage handling
  • Low frequency of use
  • Standardized production environment
  • Budget priority

If your project meets the following conditions, your double girder gantry crane’s lifting mechanism needs to be equipped with a winch:

  • Large tonnage or heavy-duty operations
  • High duty classification operation
  • Long term continuous use
  • Higher requirements for positioning accuracy
